I had a conversation with Careen recently, and she said something which really got us thinking and discussing about it.
Is life all just about planning?
What this really means is do we have to plan every single thing in our life? That includes finances, our future progression, where do we want to go, what should we do, everything. Can't we just live a care-free life where we just do what we want and not think about the consequences of not planning? Many of us think that we are spontaneous, like we just think, I'm living a life not thinking about the future, or I'm just going according to the situation.
But to think about it, is that what we really want? Without certainties of what will be heading towards us? Imagine this - spontaneously, I say, 'I want to go to Cameron Highlands!' And I just do it without planning. Little did I know, I go up there, only to know there are no hotels for me to stay in! I'll lose a lot of money for that little spontaneous stunt I did.
On the other hand, what Careen said was true too. But if we plan every single thing in our life, wouldn't it be too rigid? Wouldn't it be too boring? Where would the excitement be? I guess it's just about balance, spontaneous and plan at the same time. I guess spontaneous here would just be out of the blue green moon, I say I'd like to do something different. Then I plan on it. Well, to me, I like to do that. I somehow just like the sense of achievement if what I've planned came to pass. To me it is fulfilling.
But to some other people planning everything is just irritating. Everything we do we must say, wait, let me think about it, let me plan. Even when we are talking about a trip that we spontaneously decided to go, the excitement would just koyak! Some people just don't like to plan. That's what I found out. So what's your stand?
